Disc golf is a simple game. When it comes down to it, you only need a few things to play well. You need the discs that you love to play with, the bag that carries them, some clothes, and your shoes. And that’s it. But it’s the shoes that we’re going to talk about today.

3 reasons why you need good shoes for disc golf
1. We may hike multiple miles
Even 9 holes of disc golf can be a half mile walk or more! So it’s safe to say that you could potentially walk a couple miles at a time during your disc golf rounds. You need the shoes to be able to tackle all that.
2. The terrain can be unpredictable
In disc golf, we throw discs through trees, the forest, and over courses with unpredictable and mountainous terrain. Because of that, we need really good sport hiking trail shoes.
3. Our motions and how we play
Disc golf is a bit more unpredictable than ball golf. Our motions in throwing discs over all of that unpredictable terrain shows that we need sturdy, durable, reliable shoes.
So, with all of that said, here’s what we need in a shoe:
• Comfort
• Durability
• Performance
• Style
If you can find all of that in a shoe, it’s good for disc golf.
Our #1 overall pick
While it was a fairly tough choice, my #1 overall pick for best disc golf shoe is:
Adidas Terrex Swift R3 GTX Disc Golf Shoe
Now I chose this shoe for a few reasons:
The first is because of this shoe’s popularity in the #discgolfcommunity. Adidas has done well establishing itself as one of the top disc golf suppliers for shoes and continues to dominate as the top supplier. We’ve all seen that for awhile. No other supplier has done this to date. Latitude 64 has made a pair of shoes, but they haven’t really been very well welcomed as the quality isn’t very good (that’s why they’re not on this list). But the Swift R3 GTX is the most talked about, most highly reviewed shoe amongst disc golfers on this list.
The second reason is based on the overall performance. This shoe is built to last. Adidas has put a tremendous amount of time and effort into producing a top of the line trail runner that can be put up against any trail shoe on the market.
The third reason is for price. This shoe runs about $120-140 dollars. Other shoes that rival the quality of the R3 GTX can cost up to $150-200 dollars or more. These are well-made and very reasonably-priced. Adidas could charge more but they don’t.
The fourth and final reason is because this shoe is trusted by the pros. The R3 GTX is the shoe used by Paul McBeth and many other professional disc golfers. If they’re good enough for them, they’re good enough for the rest of us.
You can get the Adidas Terrex Swift R3 GTX here on Amazon.com or by clicking the picture.
Good brands to look out for
There are a bunch of good shoe brands out there to look for when deciding on the right pair of disc golf shoes. Nike, New Balance, and Adidas all make good tennis shoes…but we know we need more than just a tennis shoe. We need a trail running shoe that can handle competitive disc golf play. The following brands produce the best trail/hiking/performance shoes for disc golf:
• Merrell
• Adidas
• Columbia
• New Balance
• Keen
• Salomon
• Puma
• Asics
I’m sure there are more, but those are the primary shoe brands being used about 99% of the time for disc golf. From those brands, we’ve listed the 27 best disc golf shoes below.
Word of caution on pricing
Our word of caution for this article concerns the prices listed for each and every shoe on our list. While we strive to bring you the most accurate, up-to-date info available, some prices listed below could vary depending on various factors like: color or size of shoe, Amazon.com or InfiniteDiscs.com changing prices of different shoe models, and updated versions of shoes being released.
So some of the process below may be off a few dollars, but we’ll do the best we can to keep everything updated. We encourage you to always check the current prices of each individual item to decide for yourself if you want it or not. Anyways, let’s get on to the good stuff!
The 27 best disc golf shoes
1. Adidas Rockadia Trail Runner
The Rockadia trail runner is a solid, reasonably-priced option to think about when looking for good disc golf shoes. Depending on the color, you can get these for super cheap. But just because they’re cheaper than almost every shoe on this list, it doesn’t mean that they’re not decent hiking shoes. These shoes are very highly reviewed, with comfort and price being two of the main selling points.
This shoe features: a mesh and knit upper sole for breathability, a cloudfoam midsole for cushioning, an ortholite sockliner for comfort, and a traxion outsole for maximum grip on any terrain.
You can get a pair of these here on Amazon.
2. Adidas Tech Response Golf Shoe
The Adidas Tech Response golf shoe is one of only two golf shoes I have on this list. Not because I’m against ball golf shoes, but most of them have spikes that are going to eventually get ripped off from all of the disc golf play on unpredictable trail terrain. Ball golf shoes are meant for easygoing play on fairways and casual woods play every once in awhile.
These shoes, though, may be able to hold up to the more rigorous disc golf play. We play on tough, mountainous, unpredictable terrain and this could be a good option to try. They do have spikes but they are slim and may still be okay.
This shoe features: a synthetic sole, a lightweight mesh and synthetic upper for enhanced breathability and comfort, a soft eva insole for lightweight comfort and cushioning, and a 6-spike configuration with thintech low-profile technology for improved traction and stability.
You can check current prices for the Tech Response here on Amazon.
3. New Balance 410v6 Trail Runner
The New Balance 410v6 is a very reasonably-priced trail running option for your disc golf game. This shoe is decent quality, fairly comfortable, durable, and perfect for hiking unpredictable disc golf course terrain.
This shoe features: a synthetic mesh sole, comfortable cushioning, and a durable rubber outsole.
You can get these shoes here on Amazon.
4. Callaway Balboa Vent 2.0 Golf Shoe
The Callaway Balboa Vent 2.0 shoe is one of the only two traditional ball golf shoes that we put on this list. Just like I said in #2, most ball golf shoes are meant for only easygoing fairway play.
But these shoes, are spikeless and could be a viable option on the disc golf course. They’re an extremely comfortable, fairly durable and inexpensive option for you.
Callaway states, “if you’re going to walk a mile in a pair of shoes, you’ll want to do so in our lightweight Callaway Balboa Vents, especially when it’s on a golf course.”
This shoe features: a dura-weave mesh upper with 3D stability cage for maximum support and breathability, an opti-soft EVA midsole for comfort, an opti-vent mesh liner for breathability and heat management, and a spike less dura-rubber outsole.
You can get a pair of these here on Amazon.
5. Columbia Crestwood Hiking Shoe
Price: around $55-60 dollars.
The Columbia Crestwood trail shoe is a decent option for your rounds on the disc golf course. Columbia states that the North Plains Li is, “A lightweight and durable trail shoe for multiple adventures.” Aside from that, the shoe doesn’t offer a whole lot more than what you pay for. It’s a durable, waterproof, fairly-priced trail runner that can get you around the course.
If your budget is 60 bucks and you don’t need the best quality, this shoe is for you.
You can get the Columbia Crestwood here on Amazon.
If you want a better quality Columbia shoe, check out #13 on this list. That shoe is about $30 dollars more, but is way nicer.
6. Asics Gel-Kahana 8 Trail Runner
The Gel-Kahana 8 from Asics is a good trail running shoe that can be perfect for any disc golfer. These shoes are very comfortable out of the box and provide tremendous support. On top of all that, they’re very durable and look pretty good, too. I recently bought a pair of these and they have provided a ton of support and traction along trails, along with excellent grip during my throws. Great shoe so far (**will update after playing in wet conditions**).
This shoe features: a rear foot gel cushioning system, a Speva midsole that improves bounce, a duo max support system to enhance support and stability, and a trail specific outsole for uphill a d downhill traction on all types of terrain. These shoes are really great and can be awesome for disc golf.
7. Adidas Terrex AX2R Disc Golf Shoe
The Terrex AX2R are the cheapest Terrex shoes that you can buy…but that doesn’t mean they’re any less capable than the more expensive versions. The AX2R shoes may, at first, seem like low-quality. But they’ve proven their worth time and time again. The AX2R are hiking quality and will help you play through the toughest of terrains. These are a good choice of shoe for your disc golf game.
This shoe features: a breathable upper sole, a soft EVA midsole for cushioning, and a Traxion grip outsole.
You can get a pair of these shoes here on Amazon.
8. Adidas Outdoor Caprock Gore-tex Hiking Shoe
The Adidas Caprock Gore-tex hiking shoe is the easy-going cousin of the more aggressive Terrex hiking shoes featured later in this list. But that doesn’t mean this shoe is any less qualified to handle the extremes that you will handle on the disc golf course. For the most part, while disc golfing, you will only trek over trails created by your local park. That means the trails won’t even bother these shoes and they should provide more than enough support for your disc golf game.
This shoe features: a high-abrasion mesh upper sole for durability, an adiPRENE insert for comfort and shock absorption, a Gore-tex membrane for waterproofing, and a maximum grip Traxion outsole.
Grab a pair of these shoes here on Amazon.
9. Adidas Terrex AX3 Disc Golf Shoe
The Terrex AX3 from Adidas are a step up from the AX2R disc golf shoe. The AX3 shoe is a really comfortable, durable option for your disc golf game. We already know that Adidas makes some quality trail shoes and this shoe is no different.
This shoe features: a mesh and synthetic upper sole, a molded TPU protective toe cap, a durable and lightweight EVA midsole, a molded sock liner, and a Continental rubber outsole.
Grab a pair of Terrex AX3s here on Amazon.com.
10. Merrell Yokota 2 Sport Hiking Shoe
The Merrell Yokota 2 is my choice on the disc golf course. I absolutely love this sport hiking shoe. I trust it in just about every situation imaginable in disc golf and I even wear these off the course for my full-time job in law enforcement. The Yokota 2s are really great shoes.
This shoe features: a rubber sole, a contoured kinetic fit base insole, a Merrell air cushion in the heel, and a sticky rubber outsole.
If you want to try out the Yokota 2, grab a pair here on Amazon.
11. Merrell Moab 2 Sport Hiking Shoe
Price: around $80-100 dollars (depending on color).
The Moab 2 is a a really great sport hiking shoe from Merrell. These shoes will, as Merrell states, offer “out-of-the-box comfort.” Every pair of Merrells that I’ve had have been true to that statement and have been so comfortable, even from day 1.
This shoe features: a performance suede leather and mesh upper sole, a closed-cell foam tongue to keep moisture out, a protective rubber toe cap, breathable mesh lining, and a Vibram TC5+ sole.
You can get a pair of Moab 2s here on Amazon.
12. Merrell All-Out Blaze Aero Sport Hiking Shoe
The All-Out Blaze is a really great Trail and Water shoe for those disc golfers who play a lot in soggy, wet, or humid conditions.
This shoe features: a mesh and synthetic upper, an Omni-fit lacing system, a cushioned and protective unifly midsole, and a TC5+ Vibram outsole.
Grab your pair here on Amazon.
13. Columbia Redmond Waterproof Hiking Shoe
The Columbia Redmond is a good choice of shoe on the disc golf course because it is an extremely durable, waterproof hiking shoe that is built to handle all types of terrain. As disc golfers, we need shoes like this one.
This shoe features: waterproofing, advanced upper sole material, a lightweight techlite midsole, and a non-marking rubber outsole.
You can get this shoe here on Amazon.
14. Adidas Terrex Agravic Disc Golf Shoe
The Agravic Speed shoes are a great choice of shoe for your game and have been the choice of shoe for disc golf pro Eagle McMahon. Infinite Discs states that, “the Terrex Agravic Speed shoes were developed with athlete insights and are extremely lightweight while providing extraordinary grip for competitive play…If you need ultra comfort, lightweight, and top performance during your disc golf rounds, this shoe will do the job.”
This shoe features: a mesh and ripstop upper sole for breathability, a durable EVA upper sole, and a Continental rubber outsole.
You can get a pair here on Amazon.com.
15. Adidas Terrex AX2R GTX Disc Golf Shoe
The AX2R GTX is one step up from the Adidas AX2. And this shoe is built well for the price range of around $100 bucks. These are designed with the player in mind, as they offer superior comfort and long-lasting durability.
This shoe features: a durable mesh upper sole, a Gore-tex waterproof membrane, and a grippy Traxion outsole. The AX2R GTX is a good choice of shoe for your game.
You can get a pair here on Amazon.com.
16. Adidas Terrex Swift R2 Disc Golf Shoe
The Swift R2 is one small step up from the AX2R GTX money-wise, but doesn’t offer a whole lot more. They actually lack the Gore-tex waterproof membrane that the AX2R GTX has, making those shoes the better choice. The Swift R2 is a good shoe but I would personally go with the R2 GTX which is a bit more money but is waterproof.
This shoe features: a lightweight, breathable build, a speed lacing system, and a rugged Traxion outsole with grippy Continental rubber.
You can get a pair here on Amazon.com.
17. Keen Targhee Waterproof Hiking Shoe
Price: around $115-120 dollars
The Targhee waterproof hiking shoes by Keen can be a great selection in footwear for your disc golf game. They run at a pretty reasonable price, deter all forms of wetness, and are extremely rugged and tough for every aspect of disc golf.
This shoe features: a breathable mesh upper, a supportive leather overlay, waterproofing, and a protective toe cap. Overall, Keen makes a good shoe for a good price.
You can grab a pair here on Amazon.
18. Puma Ignite fasten8 Disc Golf Shoe
Price: around $100-125 dollars (depending on color)
The Puma Ignite NXT disc golf shoe could be a really good option for your disc golf game. These shoes are very comfortable and have great feel from the traction they provide. The grip they provide is excellent for disc golf play and they normally fit snug right out of the box with no break-in period.
This shoe features: a synthetic sole, a full-length Ignite foam mid-sole for comfort, wrapped in soleshield for durability, waterproof mesh, and puma disc technology for a secure, snug fit.
You can grab a pair of these Pumas here on Amazon.
19. Adidas Terrex Swift R3 GTX sport hiking shoe
Price: around $120-125 dollars
The R2 GTX is a fantastic disc golf shoe and is the shoe of choice for many top disc golf pros. I won’t go on and on about this shoe since I already wrote about it up top as my #1 pick.
20. Salomon Speedcross 5 Trail Runner
Price: around $120-130 dollars
The Speedcross 5 trail runner by Salomon is one of the best value shoes for your money here on this list. It didn’t make my #1 overall spot, but I had a hard time not putting this one there. If I had to choose a top 3, the Salomon Speedcross 5 would be in it. This shoe is super nice and is a very highly reviewed trail shoe sought after for many different types of outdoor activities. This shoe is really really durable and is made from some of the best quality material available.
This shoe features: a Contagrip rubber sole, an Aggressive grip outsole for extreme traction, a precise foothold, and an EVA midsole for lightweight cushioning and stability.
This shoe is a beast. You can get a pair here on Amazon.
21. Adidas Terrex AX3 GTX Disc Golf Shoe
Price: around $120-125 dollars
The AX3 GTX is one step up from the Swift R2 GTX shoes by Adidas. The AX3 GTX, though, is a very sturdy, durable, and well-built shoe from Adidas. This shoe is somewhat stiff, but is made that way so that you can easily trek across types of rocky, mountainous, or hilly terrain that you might come across on the disc golf course. This shoe is pretty firm, but can be worn for hours without discomfort.
This shoe features: a mesh and synthetic upper sole, Gore-tex lining for waterproof, breathable performance, a durable, lightweight midsole, a molded sockliner, and a Continental Rubber outsole for superior grip on all types of terrain. The AX3 GTX is a great choice for your disc golf game.
You can grab a pair here on Amazon.com.
22. Merrell Momentous Trail Runner w/ Vibram Sole
Price: around $120-125 dollars
The Merrell Momentous Trail Runner shoe is a really great option for your feet on the disc golf course. They are ridiculously comfortable and super form fitting to your feet with the integrated tongue on top. The tongue only separates a small bit on top with slits so that you can get a more custom fit once you put your feet in.
Once you put your feet in the shoes, it’s like walking on clouds. These feel just like most other Merrells…really great and will last you a long time.
This shoe features: a knot and thermoplastic PU upper sole for superior foot support, reflective details for visibility in low light conditions, a Burrito tongue enclosure for excellent fit (what we talked about earlier), a cushioned footbed, a molded heel counter for better energy return, more protection and balance while hiking, and a Vibram outsole for increased traction over any type of surface. I’d say that the Momentous Trail Runner is way worth your money.
You can get a pair here on Amazon.
23. Salomon Xa Pro 3D Sport Hiking Shoe
Price: around $130-135 dollars.
The Salomon Xa Pro 3D is an extremely popular shoe among those in the #discgolfcommunity. It’s still a bit pricey, but at a more reasonable price than the rest of the shoes on this list and offers tremendous quality for what you pay.
And Salomon has this to say about it: “The iconic, proven adventure shoe offers an incredible fit, improved durability, and a grip that inspires confidence.”
This shoe features: a 3D chassis that helps with stability, the Sensifit system to allow a custom fit for every foot, aggressive grip with the Contagrip system, and an extremely high traction on the outsole. This shoe was made to hike extreme surfaces, which makes it perfect for disc golf.
You can get a pair of these here on Amazon.
24. Adidas Terrex Agravic XT Disc Golf Shoe
Price: around $140-145 dollars.
The Adidas Agravic XT is one step up from the AX3 GTX. Infinite Discs states that the Agravic XT is, “Built for rocky, rooted terrain, these shoes feature a breathable mesh upper that ventilates your feet for cool comfort.” They’re designed to be really comfortable, breathable, and perfect for uneven terrain. But in order to get some great shoes, it will cost you a little bit of dough.
This shoe features: a breathable mesh layer for ventilation, a sturdy rugged frame, Boost cushioning, and a Continental Rubber outsole for superior traction. All of that makes the Agravic XT one of the better choices of shoe for your disc golf game.
Grab some Agravic XTs here on Amazon.com.
25. Puma PwrAdapt Disc Golf Shoe
Price: around $143-150 dollars.
The PwrAdapt Disc Golf shoe is a really cool, really fashionable option to add into your disc golf game. I will say, though, that this shoe is a bit pricey (upwards of $140 bucks or more). But the quality of this shoe is top notch. They are extremely comfortable and fit to your foot.
This shoe features: the PWRADAPT sole system that provide 3-D traction and cushioning, a micro-adjusting dial system to lock in comfort and a custom fit for your foot, Ignite foam for even more comfort, the PWRFRAME ultra thin and durable frame for added durability, and this shoe is waterproof. This shoe is pretty awesome.
You can get a pair of Pumas here on Amazon.
26. Adidas Terrex Agravic GTX Disc Golf Shoe
Price: around $155 dollars.
Infinite Discs states that the, “Terrex Agravic GTX allows you to push your limits on disc golf courses of all terrain types.” This shoe is one step down from the Skychaser LT GTX but doesn’t sacrifice on quality. These shoes are very well-made and they’re practically waterproof for rainy rounds or wet grass on the course.
This shoe features: responsive boost cushioning for long-lasting support, a waterproof Gore-tex membrane, abrasion-resistant welding for durability, and a Continental rubber outsole for superior grip.
Grab a pair of these awesome shoes here on Amazon.com.
27. Adidas Terrex Skychaser LT GTX Disc Golf Shoe
The Skychaser LT GTX from Adidas is the best of the best. It’s not last on this list because it lacks in quality by any means but because this shoe runs a hefty price tag of around $160 dollars. That doesn’t mean you’ll miss out on superior performance, though, as this shoe comes with it all.
This shoe features: abrasion resistant weldings for added protection, a molded sock-liner to enhance comfort and fit, boost midsole technology for some spark, a Continental rubber outsole for grip, and a Gore-tex layer for water resistance.
You can get a pair of these here on Amazon.com.
Overall
You absolutely need a good pair of shoes on the disc golf course. Whether you pick up some Merrells, Adidas, Salomon, or any other good trail/hiking/disc golf shoes, it’s important that they’re made tough and allow you to perform at your absolute best.
