On an average day back in 2013, professional disc golfer Simon Lizotte did something not so average. He threw his disc as hard as he could. Harder than anyone else ever has.
With one throw, clocked at a ridiculous 89.5 miles per hour (or 144 kilometers per hour), Simon set the “Highest Throw Speed (MPH)” record for a player throwing a disc.
These days, players want discs that will help them break their own records. The farthest. The fastest. The best. And that’s exactly what disc golf companies are giving us.
Today, we’re going to be looking at the fastest disc golf discs in the game. I’ve put together a list of those discs so that you can check them out and see what discs can help you accelerate your game. So what are the 11 fastest disc golf discs?
The 11 Fastest Disc Golf Discs in the Game Today
1. Innova Blizzard Champion Wraith
2. Latitude 64 Missilen
3. Latitude 64 Raketen
4. Axiom Excite
5. Westside Discs King
6. Dynamic Discs Freedom
7. Legacy Cannon
8. Kastaplast Rask
9. DGA Torrent
10. Innova Colossus
11. Discraft Crank
Honorable Mention – Dynamic Discs Sheriff
How I chose these discs
Before we get into this list, I want to quickly show you how I chose these discs.
1. Record-breaking discs: there are a couple discs on this list that have broken records, including distance and speed.
2. Speed ratings: most of the discs have been chosen because of their speed rating (or the first number in their flight ratings). I tried to stick to only discs with a speed rating of 14 or above.
And that’s about it. I like to keep things short and sweet sometimes. So let’s get into what you really came for!
The 11 Fastest Disc Golf Discs in the Game Today
Fastest Disc Winner – 1. Innova Blizzard Champion Wraith (11, 5, -1, 3)
Now from purely a speed rating standpoint, the Wraith is nowhere near as fast as some of the discs on this list. But the Wraith has a secret: it holds the record for “Highest Throw Speed (MPH).” This record, set at 89.5 miles per hour (or about 144 kph) by Simon Lizotte, was done so with an Innova Blizzard Champion Wraith – a super light and fast distance driver. If you want to throw fast and far, grab a Blizzard Champion Wraith here on InfiniteDiscs.com.
Check out Simon Lizotte breaking the highest throw speed record with this disc in the video below.
2. Latitude 64 Missilen (15, 3, -0.5, 4.5)
The Missilen, which appropriately stands for “Missile” in Swedish, is ridiculously ready to be the speed record-breaker in your bag. InfiniteDiscs.com states that, “The Latitude 64 Misselen is arguably the fastest golf disc on the market.” This disc, along with the Raketen below, are the only 15 speed discs on the market at the moment and are incredibly fast. I would caution you before you get this disc. You really have to be a gunslinger to be able to throw this. It’s also really overstable, so you have to throw this disc HARD. If you think you’ve got the power, grab one here on InfiniteDiscs.com.
3. Latitude 64 Raketen (15, 4, -2, 3)
The Raketen, swedish for “Rocket,” is one of the two fastest discs available to disc golfers. The other being the disc above. The Raketen sports a 15 speed rating! Along with the other 15 speed disc, the Raketen uses Opto Hex indentations to reduce drag and increase speed. That makes this disc REALLY fast! Grab a Raketen here on InfiniteDiscs.com.
4. Axiom Excite (14.5, 5.5, -2, 2)
The Excite from Axiom is one of the fastest discs in disc golf at the moment. There are only two discs with higher flight ratings and those two are the two above from Latitude 64. The Excite, though, really lives up to its name. It’s moderately understable and is great for getting some distance, long turnover shots, and long, controlled drives. Grab one here on InfiniteDiscs.com.
5. Westside Discs King (14, 5, -1.5, 3)
The King is a fast, super overstable beast of a disc from Westside Discs. With a 14 speed, it’s also one of the fastest discs on the market today. The King has a nice feel to it and loves to fly the distance, so don’t unleash this disc unless you can sling your discs at least 350 or more feet. If you’ve got the power, pick up a King here on InfiniteDiscs.com.
6. Dynamic Discs Freedom (14, 5, -3, 3)
The Freedom is an excellent distance disc from Dynamic Discs with a ton of speed. It has good glide and will turn and fade a lot during flight. It has stability similar to the Innova Katana, which has a tricky but interesting side winding flight path. The Freedom is very much the same with much more speed. Grab one here on InfiniteDiscs.com.
7. Legacy Cannon (14, 5, -3, 3)
The Cannon from Legacy Discs is a really nice, fast distance disc that you should check out. Besides being one of the fastest discs in disc golf, the Cannon is a world record-setting disc. It currently holds the “Longest Forehand/Sidearm Flight Distance” record at 624 feet set by Jason Cortella. You can get one here on InfiniteDiscs.com.
8. Kastaplast Rask (14, 3, 0, 4)
The Rask is an ultra-high-speed distance driver can be quickly described as “the faster disc.” Kastaplast states that, “those who want the fastest disc available, without the widest rim, reach for Rask.” Be careful with this disc, though, because it has to be thrown with a lot of speed and power to fly fast. You can grab one here on InfiniteDiscs.com.
9. DGA Torrent (14, 5, -1, 2)
The DGA Torrent is really great, super fast disc from DGA Discs. They don’t have a ton of discs, but the ones they do have are very well-made.
The Torrent has a lot of reasons why it’s a good disc. The first is because of the comfortable grip. It’s easy to handle and feels good in the hand. Second, it will stay straight for you and only fade a small amount if thrown flat. Lastly, it is very controllable and accurate. Good distance, comfortable feel, straight, and accurate make the Torrent a real winner in the warp-speed driver market. BUT in order to get all of that, the Torrent has to be thrown HARD. So get yourself one here on InfiniteDiscs.com.
10. Innova Colossus (14, 5 -1, 3)
The Colossus was Innova’s first attempt at a 14-speed disc and I’d say they did a pretty good job. The Colossus doesn’t seem to have as much fade as it says it does and it actually turns quite a bit in the beginning as well. I would give it flight ratings more like 14, 5, -2, 2. But it’s still a nice, speedy little distance driver. Grab a Colossus here on InfiniteDiscs.com.
11. Discraft Crank (13, 5, -2, 2)
The Crank is a nice, speedy little disc from Discraft that’s sure to fly super fast and far for you. The Crank made this list with only a 13 speed because I found something out that I didn’t know about Discraft: they have no discs above a 13 speed! So the 13 Crank and the 13 speed Nuke are all they have.
I like the Crank a bit better, though, as it’s a little bit more friendly of a disc. It’s fairly straight-flying and does the job of a fast distance disc – it flies exactly how you want it to and gets you the distance you want as well. Get a Crank here on InfiniteDiscs.com.
Honorable Mention – Dynamic Discs Sheriff (13, 5, -1, 2)
As you may already know, I absolutely love the Sheriff. It’s an incredibly fast driver that will fly for days. The distance it can get is incredible. If thrown perfectly, it can hit 450+ feet with ease. It’s not Dynamic’s fastest disc, but this baby is a great piece of plastic to have in your bag. Grab one here on InfiniteDiscs.com.
Overall
There are some really fast discs on this list. From the world record-holders to the 15 speed bandits to the discs that require insane power to even get the disc in the air, the 12 discs I’ve just shown you are the real deal. So once you think you’ve got what it takes to throw these discs, try grabbing a few and hitting the course. You’ll soon see speed and distance that you never once thought possible.
